The Power Of A New Day

images What are you thinking as you head into today?  As I watched President Obama take the oath of office, it got me to thinking.  I wonder what is going through his head right now?  I’m not talking politics and policies, power and pomp.  I’m wondering if he is thinking about how quickly time passes.  Four years have passed since he first took that oath.  Now, I was wondering if even for a second, this thought went through his head.  ”This is the last time I’ll stand here in this capacity.  All of this work.  All of this effort.  All of this dreaming. All of these years. Now, the clock ticks to a definite end in sight.”  Agree or disagree with the Presidents politics and policies, this isn’t about that.  I’m talking personally.  I wonder if those thoughts crossed his mind?

That caused me to think about my own life.  As the sun rose above the ocean this morning, with it came a new day. This is a day like none other and it will never, ever be repeated.  I think we tend to look (as I did) on days like the one I just described above as a new beginning or a line in the sand, much like the beginning of a new year.  But the truth is, every day holds within it the power to start over, take a new turn in the road, begin a new adventure or renew a commitment. There is a lot of power in making the most of a new day.
There, I’ve reminded you.  Now, take on whatever it is you need to accomplish and make the most of this day.  It only comes around once and we aren’t promised tomorrow.  As I said for so many years on my radio show, “Now go out and make a difference.”
